Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how DataDeals (“DataDeals,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and discloses personal information through the DataDeals website, calculator, contact forms, and related online services.

DataDeals is primarily a business-to-business service for companies exploring whether proprietary operating data may have commercial value.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to personal information collected through the DataDeals website and related online interactions.

It does not govern information handled under a separate client engagement, nondisclosure agreement, data-processing agreement, or other written agreement. If a separate agreement applies, that agreement may contain additional or different terms.

2. Information we collect

We collect only the information reasonably needed to operate the website, provide assessments, respond to inquiries, and evaluate potential engagements.

Information you provide directly

Depending on how you use DataDeals, you may provide:

  • name;
  • work email address;
  • company name;
  • company website;
  • role or job title;
  • information about your company, industry, size, and operating history;
  • information about systems, workflows, data categories, historical depth, and other characteristics of company data;
  • general information about rights, privacy, contractual, or other constraints;
  • information about an inbound buyer inquiry or potential transaction;
  • messages and other information you choose to provide.

If you use the calculator, we may store your answers, the resulting assessment, relevant market-evidence references, and related technical information needed to reproduce or review the assessment.

Information collected automatically

When you use the website, our hosting and infrastructure providers may receive technical information such as:

  • IP address;
  • browser type;
  • device and operating-system information;
  • requested pages and referring pages;
  • timestamps;
  • error, security, and server logs;
  • similar information necessary to operate, protect, and diagnose the website.

The site may also use cookies, local storage, session storage, or similar technologies for functionality, security, preference retention, or analytics.

Before DataDeals deploys any non-essential advertising or tracking technology that requires additional notice, consent, or opt-out controls, we intend to update our disclosures and controls as required.

3. Information we do not want submitted through public forms

You do not need to upload raw company datasets to use the calculator or request an initial Data Opportunity Review.

Please do not submit through public website forms:

  • passwords or authentication credentials;
  • Social Security numbers or similar government identifiers;
  • bank-account, payment-card, or other financial-account information;
  • raw customer or employee databases;
  • medical records or patient-level health information;
  • biometric information;
  • highly sensitive personal information;
  • confidential company files;
  • proprietary datasets;
  • information you are not authorized to provide.

If a deeper review later requires confidential or proprietary materials, the scope, method, and terms for sharing them should be agreed separately.

4. How we use information

We may use information we collect to:

  • operate, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the website;
  • provide calculator results and related assessments;
  • identify potential data-licensing opportunities;
  • evaluate whether an inquiry may merit a human review;
  • respond to messages and review requests;
  • prepare for and conduct initial conversations;
  • communicate about DataDeals services;

5. What submitting information does not authorize

Submitting information through the calculator, contact page, or review-request form does not authorize DataDeals to market your company or its proprietary data to prospective buyers.

We do not treat use of the website as permission to:

  • send your company information to AI companies or other prospective buyers;
  • disclose proprietary company information to prospective counterparties;
  • approach buyers on your company’s behalf;
  • represent that we act as your agent or advisor.

If DataDeals later represents your company in a buyer-outreach or transaction process, that work must be separately authorized and may be governed by an engagement agreement, confidentiality terms, or other written arrangements.

6. How we disclose information

We may disclose personal information to service providers that help us operate the website or business, such as providers of:

  • website hosting and infrastructure;
  • databases and cloud services;
  • email and communications;
  • analytics, if enabled;
  • security and fraud prevention;
  • professional services.

These providers may process information on our behalf or as otherwise permitted by their applicable agreements and privacy terms.

We may also disclose information:

  • when required by law, subpoena, court order, or other legal process;
  • when reasonably necessary to protect DataDeals, our users, or others;
  • to investigate misuse, fraud, or security incidents;
  • in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar corporate transaction;
  • at your direction or with your consent.

7. Sale, advertising, and data brokerage

DataDeals does not sell calculator responses, contact-form submissions, or proprietary company information to data brokers or advertisers for their own marketing purposes.

DataDeals is not designed as an advertising-supported service, and information submitted for a review is not intended to be used for third-party behavioral advertising.

If our practices materially change, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any notice, consent mechanism, or opt-out required by applicable law.

8. Buyer and referral relationships

DataDeals may have commercial relationships with buyers, referral partners, or other market participants.

Those relationships do not authorize DataDeals to disclose information from your calculator or contact submission to those parties.

If a prospective seller later authorizes buyer outreach or another transaction process, information may be shared as agreed for that process. Any applicable seller-side engagement terms, referral economics, or conflicts disclosures should be addressed separately.

9. Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

As a general operating standard:

  • ordinary contact and review-request records may be retained for up to 24 months after the last meaningful interaction;
  • calculator and assessment records associated with a business inquiry may be retained for up to 24 months after the last meaningful interaction;
  • security and technical logs may be retained for shorter or longer periods based on operational and security needs;
  • records connected with an active or former client engagement may be retained longer where reasonably necessary for contractual, tax, accounting, dispute-resolution, insurance, legal, or compliance purposes.

We may delete, anonymize, or aggregate information earlier when it is no longer reasonably needed.

These periods may be extended when necessary to comply with law, preserve legal rights, investigate misuse, or maintain records relating to an active dispute or transaction.

10. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the information we collect.

No website, database, or electronic transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

For that reason, public DataDeals forms are intentionally designed for business metadata and general inquiry information, not raw proprietary datasets or highly sensitive personal information.

11. Your privacy choices and rights

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights regarding your personal information, which may include the right to:

  • request access to or information about personal information we hold;
  • request correction of inaccurate personal information;
  • request deletion of personal information;
  • request a copy of certain personal information;
  • object to or restrict certain processing;
  • opt out of certain sales, sharing, or targeted advertising where applicable;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • appeal certain decisions regarding a privacy request;
  • receive non-discriminatory treatment for exercising applicable privacy rights.

These rights are subject to legal exceptions and may not apply in every jurisdiction or to every type of information.

We may need to verify your identity and authority before completing certain requests.

12. California and other U.S. state privacy laws

If DataDeals becomes subject to a state privacy law that grants additional rights or imposes additional notice requirements, we will process covered requests and provide required notices in accordance with applicable law.

Nothing in this Privacy Policy is intended to limit rights that cannot lawfully be limited.

13. International users

DataDeals is based in the United States.

If you access the website from outside the United States, information may be processed or stored in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.

Where applicable law requires a particular legal basis, we may process personal information because it is necessary to provide requested services, to take steps at your request before entering into an engagement, to pursue legitimate business interests, to comply with legal obligations, or based on consent where required.

14. Email communications

If you contact DataDeals or request a review, we may send communications related to your inquiry, assessment, or potential engagement.

We may also send occasional relevant business communications where permitted by law.

You may ask us to stop non-essential marketing communications at any time. Transactional or relationship communications may continue where necessary.

The website may link to buyer programs, research, news reporting, government materials, or other third-party websites.

DataDeals does not control those websites and is not responsible for their privacy, security, or data practices.

16. Children

DataDeals is intended for business users and is not directed to children under 18.

We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children through the website.

17. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our website, services, technology, or legal obligations change.

If we make a material change, we will update the effective date and provide any additional notice required by applicable law.

We will not use a material policy change to retroactively authorize a materially different use of information where applicable law requires additional notice or consent.
